April 26, 2009 - "2nd Annual Poetry Reading at the Brookside Amphitheater"

2 - 6 PM Brookside Amphitheater

This event is open to the public, feel free to come and read your own poems, your favorite author’s, or just come and listen.

Preferred parking is limited. Additional parking is available with access to the Greek style amphitheater via a short, marked trail.

Prepare as for a picnic, bring folding chair, blanket or cushion, as desired, to sit on stone tiers.

Spring 2009 Planting all around the Sanctuary!

The Marsh Sanctuary will be making a green "investment" in the gardens at Brookside, areas around the Stable, as well as all over the Sanctuary. Over the next few years, the Sanctuary will be increasing the variety of colors and species in the various areas, expecially focusing on native species, deer resistant shrubs, perennials and trees. If you would like to assist with planting, please give the Sanctuary a call at (914) 241-2808.

We have been trying to control the invasive pest plants (Poison Ivy, barberry, euonymous, etc.) for the last two years and we hope by planting additional natives (serviceberry, arrowwood, etc.) our plan will give the native landscape chance to rebound. If only it were so easy to control the deer!

Summer 2009 ( "Two Guitars Now")

Not sure when but we MUST have these guys over to play in the amphitheater

A bit of info about the duo Two Guitars Now:

"Brian Conigliaro and Gus Wieland are music business veterans.They've played all over the country and with various 'name' acts. These guys play a great acoustic mix of blues and jazz fusion, and original tunes. Their guitars weave an intricate story around the lyrics. Add to all this vocal harmonies and Brian's virtuoso harmonica playing, and you've got one evening of great live music. I love when they play my club."

January 31st, 2009 Bedford Environmental Summit

Visit www.sustainablebedford.org for more info on the workshops, the expo, and partners.

The Marsh Sanctuary had an expo booth at the summit, handing out maps and talking with folks about our plans for the Marsh Sanctuary's future. We are looking at possibly creating our own community garden at the Sanctuary and this was a great way to gain the info neeed for the planning and implementation of such a large project.

Our Fourth Annual Oktoberfest / CD Release Party for "Old Flames & New Names"

We had a FANTASTIC TIME with a great crowd - thank you to everyone who came out for a cold, but fun, night at the Brookside Amphitheater.

June 1st - "The Marsh Sanctuary presents Latin Jazz and Salsa"

The David Markowitz Latin Jazz Quintet played a range of Latin Jazz from "Bésame Mucho" to instrumental versions of Shakira songs, Latin jazz pieces, some boleros, some Brazilian classics and some arrangements of Latin pop. We have heard a flush of compliments and praise for these wonderful musicians.

Batutera returned to the Brookside Amphitheater for another fun show, it's always a pleasure to have them, a real crowd pleaser.

Since the menu for this affair highlighted South American and Latino foods, the Marsh Sanctuary's own caretaker Alberto Maidana assisted with grilling duties and he did a phenomenal job cooking a few selections from his home country of Argentina. Several attendees even asked what restaurant Alberto cooked at during the week.

May 2008

"1st Annual Poetry Reading at the Brookside Amphitheater" - May 4th

Our first annual Poetry at Brookside was lots of fun - the Girl Scouts were on hand, selling cookies AND reading Shel Silverstein poems.

We had a wonderful day, beautiful weather, azaleas in bloom!

March & April 2008

The Boy Scouts of Mount Kisco have been assisting us with construction of our kiosk - thanks to the Scouts and to John Meres for organizing the boys - quite an inspiring leader!

April 26th - The Bedford Riding Lanes Association work ontrail maintenance and other much needed tasks around the Sanctuary.

February 2008

Feb. 22 - The snow is on the ground, let's go XC skiing!!!

Chris and Val will be laying trails in the northern and southern sectors of the Sanctuary. This was a fantastic weekend, SORRY but I took no pictures on our very long XC ski trip from Leonard Park to Marsh Sanctuary down to Merestead and backup to Marsh Sanctuary! It was a beautiful day on the trails.
